ABOUT
US
Dignity/Houston is an independent, inclusive community of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Catholics and their friends in Houston, Texas. Dignity/Houston was established in 1974, and has offered Saturday night religious services for three decades.
Dignity/Houston is a chapter of DignityUSA, which was begun in 1969 in San Diego under the leadership of Fr. Patrick Nidorf, OST, first as a counseling group and then a support group in Los Angeles. Dignity/USA, and independent nonprofit organization, has been a national organization since 1973. National offices are in Washington, DC, with chapters throughout the United States. Members gather at periodic regional meetings and biennial national conventions.
Dignity chapters are not affiliated with the local dioceses.
DignityUSA envisions and works for a time when Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Catholics are affirmed and experience dignity through the integration of their spirituality with their sexuality, and as beloved persons of God participate fully in all aspects of life within the Church and Society.
